Valley to do research on cutting-edge technologies related to self-driving cars and vehicle interiors.

The Toyota Boshoku America Silicon Valley Office will begin operations in April. The company has not indicated how many people will be employed at the facility or exactly where it will be located.

The center's team will study such technologies as emotion sensing. A primary goal, according to Kimitaka Ando, the Toyota Boshoku senior vice president who will run the center, is to determine what types of vehicle interiors are most comfortable to people.

Toyota Boshoku is a member of Toyota Motor Corp.'s group of businesses. It supplies seating, interior trim, air/oil filters and other products to Toyota and other carmakers. The company, which is headquartered in Erlanger, Ky., already operates a technical center in Novi, Mich.
