CEO Elon Musk tells Der Spiegel that Tesla Motors Inc. is discussing an alliance with BMW AG that could involve batteries and electric vehicle charging stations.

He also tells the German news magazine he finds BMW's production of carbon-fiber parts for its i3 electric and i8 hybrid cars "interesting" and relatively cost efficient.

BMW and Tesla said in June they were in talks about collaborating on EV charging networks and technology. Nissan reportedly was interested in joining the talks. The three companies currently account for about 80% of global EV sales.
