Nissan Motor Co. CEO Carlos Ghosn says by 2016 the company will introduce several models that can park themselves and drive on expressways without human guidance.

The latter system will expand its capabilities in 2016 to enable cars to change lanes automatically. But 2020, Ghosn adds, such systems also will be able to safely negotiate intersections on their own.

Other carmakers are introducing similar autonomous capabilities. Some, including Ford and Toyota, offer a self-parking feature now. Ghosn foresees a strong market for autonomous systems in large cities and among aging drivers.
