Nissan Motor Co. is teaming up with Enterprise Rent-A-Car to rent cars to college students for $5 an hour including insurance and fuel costs. Dubbed Enterprise CarShare, the initiative will make various Nissan models available on about 90 U.S. college campuses.

Nissan describes the program as a "stress-free, extended test drive" that gives it the opportunity to engage young consumers before they become car buyers. According to a recent Enterprise survey, 68% of millennials and Gen-X consumers indicated they have considered buying a specific car model after renting it.

More than one-fourth of the respondents said that a positive rental experience prompted them to begin shopping for a new vehicle. Most of the participating campuses in the Enterprise CarShare program have ordered three or four vehicles. Arizona State University is the largest participant with 25 vehicles.
