Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz Cars unit confirms it will unveil a fuel cell-powered version of its large GLC crossover next year.

Thomas Weber, the company's product development chief, tells Autcar the GLC F-Cell will have a range of 250-300 miles per hydrogen fill-up and will feature a modular powertrain whose components could be used in other Mercedes models.

The bulk of the system is designed to occupy the same space used by the engine in the conventionally powered GLC.

Autocar speculates Mercedes will unveil the vehicle at the 2017 Frankfurt auto show and begin limited sales in 2018. The magazine predicts the model will retail for about $72,000.
