One of Google Inc.'s autonomous vehicles was pulled over last week by a police officer in Mountain View, Calif. The infraction: driving too slow.

The car was traveling at close to its maximum speed, which is limited to 25 mph on public roads. But it was holding up traffic because the posted speed limit on the road is 35 mph. After speaking with Google employees who were passengers in the prototype car, the police officer let it proceed without issuing a ticket.

Google, which has a fleet of 73 cars, is one of several companies testing autonomous vehicles on California roads. The vehicles currently are restricted to roads with posted limits of 35 mph or less. The Mountain View Police department says it meets regularly with these companies to ensure proper safety is maintained during testing.
