Ford Motor Co. has unveiled two e-bikes in Barcelona. The electric prototypes work with an app that integrates bicycle travel with data from roads and public transportation networks.

The automaker proposes to incorporate bike riding into the everyday mobility mix of personal car and public transportation to optimize efficiency and safety.

Ford says the iPhone 6-compatible app features multimodal navigation and smart routing that enables bike travelers to plan routes based on traffic conditions, identify road hazards and communicate with other vehicles. The app also accounts for weather conditions and charging availability.

One of the e-bike models is designed for urban commuters and the other for commercial use.

Both have a 200-watt motor, 9-amp-hour battery, and can travel at 25 kph. Features include electric pedal assist, rear-facing ultrasonic sensors, handle bars that vibrate when it's time to turn and signals that blink automatically.

The bikes can be folded, stowed and charged inside Ford vehicles when the traveler is driving or riding a train, then taken out and used when biking is the better option.
