Delphi Automotive plc says its vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communications technology will debut in the American market in 2016.

Delphi didn't identify the customer. But General Motors Co. announced on Sunday it will introduce such technology in the 2017 Cadillac CTS sedan due two years from now. The system uses radio signals to transmit traffic information from car to car, thus alerting drivers to possible dangers ahead.

Delphi says the technology can signal such conditions as driving hazards, road work, emergency vehicles, traffic jams, accidents and slow or stationary vehicles in the roadway to vehicles around it.
