Wheeler Nominated to Head EPA

President Donald Trump has nominated Andrew Wheeler, who has been serving as acting head of the Environmental Protection Agency since July, as its permanent administrator.

Wheeler joined the EPA as deputy administrator last April. He has filled in as interim administration since Scott Pruitt resigned amid a series of ethics investigation. His nomination was expected, and he is almost certain to be confirmed after Senate hearings next week.

Wheeler has continued to implement the Trump administration’s strategy of scrapping what it considers excessive Obama-era regulations. He is a former lobbyist for the fossil fuel industry who has been described as an expert on regulatory policy.
