Volvo Car Group has signed a deal with Swedish telecommunications giant LM Ericsson to collaborate on connected vehicle technologies.

Under the agreement, Volvo will use Ericsson’s Connected Vehicle Cloud platform and 5G communications for digital vehicle services in 120 markets worldwide for the next five years. Volvo says the platform will help enable various automated vehicle, fleet management, telematics, navigation and infotainment systems.

The deal is said to be the largest to date for Ericsson’s Connected Vehicle Cloud. Volvo has been working with Ericsson for several years on other connected vehicle initiatives.
