The British government has pledged to contribute £28 million ($36 million) to the country’s Battery Industrialization Centre.

Based in Coventry, the facility was established to help make the U.K. a global center to develop manufacturing systems for next-generation batteries. The new investment comes after an initial investment of £80 million ($102 million).

The government’s ultimate goal is for the U.K. to build a battery “gigafactory” in the U.K. to supply power packs for electric vehicles.
