Trump, Trudeau to Discuss Trade Pact Next Week

Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will meet with President Donald Trump on June 20 to discuss ratifying their countries’ updated trade deal with Mexico.

The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement was signed last November, but none of the three countries has ratified it. Trump complicated the process over the past two weeks by threatening to impose a 5% tariff on Mexican imports, lifting the warning and then raising it again.

Now Trump and the Republican party are pushing to vote on the USMCA before Congress recesses in August. Democrats want the measure to include tougher enforcement of environmental and labor standards.
