Tesla’s Latest Model 3 Challenge: Smoother Deliveries

Tesla Inc. is hustling to solve a pleasant new problem with its Model 3 electric sedan: keeping up with the paperwork generated by a big upswing in deliveries.

CEO Elon Musk acknowledged yesterday that the company’s response time has slowed and that fixing the bottleneck is a top priority. Musk tweeted the comment in response to a customer who complained he hasn’t been able to obtain the vehicle identification number for a car he plans to pick up on Monday.

Tesla eked out a weekly Model 3 production rate of 5,000 units in the last week of June, mainly through the help of a temporary assembly line set up in a large tent outside its main factory.

The company, which says it has 400,000 pre-orders for the car, aims to achieve weekly output of 10,000 units sometime before the end of this year.
