Volvo Car Corp.’s Polestar electric vehicle unit says it will take the wraps off its second model on Feb. 27.

Dubbed the Polestar 2, the small sport sedan is scheduled to go on sale early next year. An overhead teaser image indicates the vehicle will feature a coupe-like profile, glass roof and a rear light bar.

Volvo says the car’s electric powertrain will generate 400 hp. The driving range is expected to top 300 miles.

The fastback Polestar 2 will be Volvo’s first vehicle to feature an infotainment system powered by Google’s Android operating system. The technology enables direct in-car access to Google Maps, a voice-activated assistant and other services without the need for a smartphone.

The new Polestar model will share a platform with the conventionally powered Volvo XC40 compact crossover vehicle. Pricing is expected to start in the mid-$40,000 range to compete against Tesla Inc.’s Model 3 EV.

The vehicle will join the $155,000 Polestar 1 hybrid coupe due this summer. A large SUV/crossover, called the Polestar 3, also is in the works.
