Paris Vows to Outlaw Combustion Engines by 2030

The city government of Paris says it aims to eliminate piston-powered vehicles by 2030 in a bid to improve air quality and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.

The deadline is 10 years earlier than the date when France has said it will ban internal combustion engines nationwide. Paris already levies fines on old vehicles that enter the city, bans vehicles from certain zones and has staged no-car days.

The city also has contemplated a ban on diesel engines ahead of the Summer Olympics to occur in the capital in 2024.
