Buyers of select Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Europe are now able to purchase additional infotainment services directly through their vehicles’ audio system.

The additions can be made through the Mercedes Me app store from a vehicle’s MBUX infotainment system. Available options initially will be limited to digital radio, navigation and smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto).

Mercedes says more services—and the capability for over-the-air software updates—could be added later. Tesla Inc. has been offering wireless updates for several years, and several other carmakers are beginning to add similar capabilities.

Mercedes is launching its program in the A- and B-Class small cars and GLE crossover. The capability to add services will extend to subsequent buyers.
