Honda Motor Co. is accelerating production in England to build inventories ahead of expected shipping delays when the U.K. exits the European Union in March.

The company tells reporters that its assembly plant in Swindon will step up output of certain models to avoid disruptions caused by shipping and distribution issues. The facility makes Civic hatchback small cars.

Carmakers are bracing for problems even if the U.K. manages to avoid a “hard” Brexit that would impose tariffs and border inspections. Virtually all have warned that their British factories will be instantly disrupted if the government fails to leave the EU with no replacement trade agreement.

Honda announced earlier this month that it plans to suspend production at Swindon for six days in April to ride out anticipated supply disruptions.
