Germany’s top administrative court confirmed earlier today that the country’s cities may immediately begin to ban older diesels in an effort to improve air quality.

Reuters says the 30-page statement sharped the courts statement in February by saying cities may immediately implement bans on diesels that meet Euro 5 standards or below. Only Euro 6 diesels would be exempt.

The court previously said Euro 5 diesels could not be banned until September 2019. The new opinion also removes exemptions for diesel-powered work vehicles and those operated by certain residents.
