Ford Motor Co. is calling back 108,400 of its 2015 model Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ midsize sedans in North America to fix seatbelts that could fail in a crash.

The flaw involves the passenger side belt pretensioner system, which tightens seatbelts just before the impact of a crash. Ford says that, when triggers, the device can generate enough heat to weaken a cable that anchors the seatbelts. If so, the cable could break.

Dealers will apply a heat-resistant coating to protect the cable when the pretensioner deploys. Ford plans to begin the recall in early September
