Detroit’s Wayne State University and the Michigan Mobility Institute plan to launch a master’s degree program in mobility within the next two years.

The interdisciplinary degree through the university’s College of Engineering is expected to be the first of its kind anywhere.

The nonprofit Michigan Mobility Institute was formed earlier this year by the Detroit Mobility Lab to help enhance the know-how of Michigan’s workforce.

MMI Executive Director Jessica Robinson says the organization aims to fill the auto industry’s need for mobility experts with an understanding of everything from engineering and manufacturing to software development and data sciences.
