The Detroit auto show’s AutoMobili-D expo next month will include 57 startup companies—a 40% increase over the number of such participants at this year’s inaugural event in January.

The newcomers represent 11 countries—up from five countries at the previous event—and have raised a combined $157 million in venture capital funding. Nearly 80% of the companies signed up for 2018 Automobili-D are new to the expo.

Automobili-D highlights companies and organizations in six areas: autonomous driving, connected car technologies, e-mobility, mobility services, smart cities and universities/associations. In addition to exhibitors, Automobili-D includes panel discussions, demonstrations and test track activities related to advanced mobility services and technologies.

The startup area is coordinated by Techstars Mobility, a Detroit-based company that invests primarily in startups specializing in new mobility technologies and services. Hewlett Packard is presenting sponsor for the January event.
