Wuhan, China-based Grove Hydrogen Automotive Co. teamed up with Pininfarina SpA to present a fuel cell-powered concept car at this week’s Shanghai auto show.

Dubbed the Granite, the stylish sedan features a coupe-like roofline, muscular front-end and sculpted rear diffuser. Other design cues include rear-hinged rear doors and cameras in place of exterior side mirrors. No technical or performance information was provided.

Grove was launched earlier this year as part of the Institute of Geosciences and Environment (IGE), which was formed three years ago to produce hydrogen from industrial waste materials. Both companies are headed by Hao Yiguo.

Grove aims to introduce a range of fuel cell vehicles in China, starting with the Obsidian SUV/crossover later this year. The company claims it will start volume production next year.

The vehicles will use a lightweight carbon fiber construction. The SUV’s driving range is said to be 625 miles per hydrogen fill-up.
