Two Chinese electric car makers—BYD Co. and JAC Motors—could move some production to Indonesia to avoid the trade war between China and the U.S., The Jakarta Post reports.

The newspaper cites Ridwan Djamaluddin, an undersecretary for infrastructure affairs. He says both companies are considering the scheme to avoid high tariffs currently in place for exporting to the U.S.

Ridwan says discussions have centered on possible plant locations and expected new investment regulations for EV businesses. Neither company has indicated the size of investments that might result.
