Car Sales Slip 1% in Germany

Registrations of personal vehicles in Germany totaled 265,700 units in January, down 1% from the same month last year, according to the country’s motor transport authority.

Registrations of personal vehicles in Germany totaled 265,700 units in January, down 1% from the same month last year, according to the country’s motor transport authority.

KBA notes that demand for diesels grew 2% in January, while deliveries of gasoline-fueled models fell 8%. Consumers bought 4,600 all-electric cars, compared with 2,800 in January 2018.

Total sales of cars, buses and commercial trucks last month advanced less than 1% to 304,100 vehicles.

Sales were mixed for the market’s most popular brands. Demand fell for Volkswagen (-23% to 50,800 units), Mercedes-Benz (-4% to 25,300), BMW (-8% to 19,200) and Opel (-7% to 16,200). Deliveries rose for Audi (+4% to 21,800 vehicles) and Ford (+15% to 21,100).
