Car Recalls in China Drop to 12 Million Units

Chinese carmakers recalled about 12 million vehicles last year, down from 20 million in 2017 and 11 million in 2016, according to the government.

Last year’s sharp decline is due primarily to a drop in campaigns involving explosion-prone Takata Corp. airbag inflators, the government’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine says.

The agency notes that callbacks related to powertrain, brake system and electrical problems are on the rise.
