General Motors Co. has appointed Kim Brycz senior vice president of global human resources, effective immediately.

She replaces Jose Tomas, who resigned last month after less than eight months in the position. Brycz, 56, joined GM in 1983 and most recently served as executive director of global product purchasing. A replacement for that job is expected to be named soon.

GM says Brycz has played a key role in restructuring relationships with suppliers and helped forge innovations. She previously headed global purchasing activities for machinery, equipment and indirect materials. She also was the purchasing lead for electrical systems, batteries, hybrids and interiors.

Brycz has a business degree from Michigan State University.
