Aptiv plc has added a fourth technical center for self-driving vehicles, this time in Las Vegas.

The 130,000 sq-ft facility includes areas for research and development, data management and technology demonstrations. The facility employs 40 engineers, 200 drivers and about 60 support staff.

Aptiv operates similar tech centers in Boston, Singapore and Pittsburgh. Last year the company, formerly part of Delphi Automotive, acquired autonomous vehicle software specialist nuTonomy Inc. and integrated the Massachusetts-based startup into its existing autonomous-driving group.

Aptiv has 75 autonomous vehicles in Las Vegas, including 30 that are part of a pilot program the company has operated with Lyft Inc. since May. All of the vehicles are modified BMW 5 Series sedans.

The Aptiv/Lyft ride-hailing fleet has completed 25,000 paid customer rides this year, serving more than 1,600 destinations in Las Vegas and surrounding areas. Additional locations are due to be added next year.
