Silicon Valley may be North America’s biggest concentration of information technology expertise. But Canada is close behind, says Ray Tanguay, the top automotive advisor to the governments of Canada and the province of Ontario.

Tanguay notes that Canada is home to 28,000 IT companies and 288,000 IT specialists. He also points out that the cost of doing r&d in Canada is about 28% lower than in the U.S.

Canada’s biggest strengths in automotive IT issues are encryption and cyber security, both of which are key challenges in the race to make connectivity and autonomous driving technologies viable, Tanguay says.
