Turning Car Interiors into Multi-Purpose Rooms

When cars become truly self-driving, their interiors will become multipurpose rooms that occupants can use to carry on the day’s tasks while moving from point A to point B, says Richard Chung, vice president, Innovation, for global automotive seating leader Adient plc.

That means travelers can turn commuting time into more personally meaningful periods for such activities as meetings, dining, office work or entertainment.

Chung notes that Adient has demonstrated how some of these capabilities can be integrated into existing vehicle interior architectures. One example: front seats that can rotate 18° toward each other to aid conversation, while enabling the driver to resume control of a semi-autonomous vehicles as needed.
