Michigan-based GHSP Inc. started a century ago as a metal stamping company. Today, it’s a full-fledged electronic controls supplier and systems integrator.

The transformation began when the company transitioned from mechanical to electronically controlled gear shifters, says Chief Technology Officer Marc Smeyers. Since then, the GHSP has added steering column controls, wireless charging systems and electronic controls for pumps and actuators.

Now the company is pursuing UV-based disinfecting technology that could be used to sanitize high-touch areas in ride-share vehicles. One key to the company’s success, Smeyers says, is its ability to look for gaps in the marketplace, then deliver quick solutions.
