Michigan State University is conducting multi-disciplinary research on autonomous driving that includes a self-driving-shuttle service for students, says Leo Kempel, dean of the College of Engineering.

Kempel credits the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) educational initiative with ending the nation’s struggle to attract students into science and technology. He notes that today’s college freshmen—including 1,700 who enrolled in MSU’s engineering department this fall—are the first to have been brought up entirely under STEM.
