Sales in Russia of cars and light commercial vehicles advanced 39% to 2.6 million units last year, reports the Moscow-based Assn. of European Businesses.

Growth slowed to 23% in December, and the AEB predicts the market will expand by 8% to 2.8 million units in 2012. The group says demand will depend upon a "stable investment climate" and availability of retail financing for buyers.

As usual, Russia's Lada brand led the market with sales of 578,400 units, up 11%. The four next-best-sellers last year were Chevrolet (+49% to 173,500 units), Hyundai (+88% to 163,400 units), Renault (+60% to 154,700 units) and Kia (+47% to 152,900 units).
