2010 Car Sales in Russia

Sales of cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia jumped 30% to 1.9 million units in 2010, including a 60% surge to 204,600 units in December, reports the Moscow-based Association of European Businesses.

Sales of cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia jumped 30% to 1.9 million units in 2010, including a 60% surge to 204,600 units in December, reports the Moscow-based Association of European Businesses.

Market leader OAO AvtoVAZ, maker of Lada brand cars, captured 37% of last year's market. It was followed by General Motors (8%), Volkswagen (7%), Kia (5%) and Toyota (5%).

The AEB predicts car and light commercial vehicle sales will reach 2.24 million units in 2011 putting Russia on track to become Europe's largest national car market in a few years.
