Tesla Recalls 53,000 EVs to Fix Parking Brake

Tesla Inc. will recall 53,000 of its Model S and Model X electric cars to fix parking brakes that may not release when they should.

The company blames improperly made gears from a third-party supplier that were installed in vehicles made between February and October 2016. If a gear fails, the parking brake for that wheel would jam in the “on” position.

Tesla is preparing to email affected customers worldwide. The company estimates only 5% of the recalled vehicles contain the defective part, which will take about 45 minutes to replace.
