Carmakers are considering a wide range of materials to help them make vehicles lighter and more fuel efficient. But none beats steel, says Jody Hall, vice president, Automotive Market at the Steel Market Development Institute.
She asserts steel is easier to recycle into whatever desired grade is needed even when different alloy scraps are melted together. Hall describes steel as more environmentally friendly than aluminum. And she says today's ultra-strong steels can deliver comparable weight-saving improvements.
